The Skillie Project is a community-driven research initiative focused on learning more about white marlin of Nantucket. “Skillies” are large white marlin found near the surface off Nantucket. Why they gather there remains part of the mystery, and that is exactly what The Skillie Project hopes to better understand. By placing pop-up satellite tags on these fish, researchers can gather valuable information about where and when they travel, the depths, and temperatures they experience. This season, the crews of El Diablo (a Viking 72), Riptide (a Viking 74), Whiskey, and Scup Slayer (a Viking 72) helped us successfully tag two white marlin. When those tags eventually release and transmit their data, the UMaine Pelagic Fisheries Lab will process and help us analyze the results. From that data, we can help build a better baseline of data to learn more about white marlin that could help with their management in the future. During Skillie Week, we also shared an incredible result from an earlier season. One of our tagged white marlin traveled nearly 7,000 miles in eight months after leaving the waters south of Nantucket and traveling all the way to the Bahamas. That journey is an exciting example of what one tag can reveal and why this research is so important. But The Skillie Project is about more than science. It is about bringing people together around the fish, the fishery, and the future of our ocean. @eldiablosportfishing @fishypantsmagoo @riptide_crew @pelagicfisherieslab @theskillieproject A huge thank-you to our headline sponsors, Okuma Fishing, Simms Fishing, and Woody Creek Distillers, and Viking Yacht Company for helping make this work possible. We are also incredibly grateful for Yeti, Mid-Atlantic Tournament, Roffs, Onyx Partners, Release Marine, Big Game Battle, Skillie Shootout Tournament, Fresh Nantucket, Cape Cod Bluewater Classic, Lids, Oyster Harbors Marine, Faraway Hotels, Cisco Brewers, Nantucket Boat Basin, Nantucket Tackle, and every captain, crew member, scientist, business, artist, volunteer, and community partner who brought Skillie Week to life. @okumafishingusa @simmsfishing @woodycreekdistillers @vikingyachtcompany @yeti @t

“You don’t just show up and win.” - Whitney Gould Not in competitive casting. Not in guiding. Not in fishing. The moments that look effortless are built through repetition, failure, adjustment and the willingness to keep learning from the people around you. Recently, Simms Pro, Whitney Gould, carried that mindset to the World Fly Casting Championships, where she swept the competition while proudly representing Team USA. Congratulations to Whitney, her coaches and the teammates who pushed and supported one another all the way to the world stage. #DrivenByThoseWhoFish #SimmsFishing

If you care about fishing, you should care about where our water comes from. Roadless areas protect the headwaters that feed the rivers and fisheries we all depend on. They keep cold, clean water flowing downstream, protect intact fish habitat and preserve wild places and fishing experiences that are getting harder and harder to find. We supports active, science-based forest management and responsible wildfire mitigation. However, the push to eliminate protections across nearly 45 million acres of largely intact public land isn’t the answer. The chance to submit public comment on this is now through October, 6th. It takes two minutes and it’s the only part of this process where your voice goes on the record. Visit our story or link in bio to act now. #SimmsFishing

Montana’s stream access laws are the best in the nation, but they only remain strong when Montanans stand together to protect them. That’s why we asked dozens of Montana fly shops, outdoor businesses, non-profits, lodges, and media entities to support this cause—they unanimously agreed. Join us Thursday, September 17, at the Emerson Lawn in Bozeman for the Montana Stream Access Rally. Hear from conservation leaders, businesses, elected officials, and individuals whose livelihoods depend on access to Montana’s rivers and streams. Live music, food trucks, beer, beverages, and an important conversation about the future of public access. This event is free and open to everyone. Thursday, September 17 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM The Emerson Lawn 111 S Grand Ave, Bozeman Show up. Speak up. Protect Montana stream access. - #flyfishtheworld #flyfishingtravel #flyfishing #fishing #conservation

A fish of this caliber might end up in one angler’s hands, but rarely does it belong to just one person. There are the extra sets of eyes searching the water, the second opinions, the encouragement when things aren’t going right, and the person waiting with the net when everything finally does. There are missed chances, changed plans, long days, and a crew willing to stay invested in the outcome even when they’re not the one holding the rod. And then there’s the moment it all comes together. For Simms Pro Paula Shearer - PS On The Fly and her crew, the celebration says just about everything. @kalli_outdoors caught the fish, but everyone standing around her got to share in the victory. Sometimes the best catch of the trip isn’t yours. Sometimes that makes it even better. #DrivenByThoseWhoFish #SimmsFishing 📸: @bacha.photo

Local fly shops are where most of us started, and they are still the reason a lot of this works... This spring we hosted the Meet Your Maker giveaway, where any Simms item purchased from your local fly shop could win you a new wading kit, an all-inclusive Montana fishing trip, and tour of our Bozeman facility for two. Our winners bought their gear St.Peter's Fly Shop, and this past weekend they came to Bozeman to see where their waders come from, and experience some of the fisheries that make Montana so special. Thank you to everyone who entered, and to every shop that keeps this going. Nobody has ever been happier to meet their maker. #DrivenByThoseWhoFish #ShopLocal #SimmsFishing
