Dr. Becky has one piece of advice for parents of perfectionist kids: Let them fail. She explains why making mistakes and even getting a bad grade can help kids learn that failure doesn’t change who they are, and that they can handle it. When my kids are bouncing off the walls and stalling at bedtime, it’s their body’s way of saying “I have big feelings stuck in my body.”   Taking a bath and reading a book is great, but movement and play actually releasethese  pent upfeelings and give them the tools to get unstuck.   Carter’s is shining a light on the bedtime routines that work for real families. For us, that’s yoga. Here are five simple poses we love doing together before bed:   🐱 Stretch like a cat (connection over correction): A slow, whole-spine stretch paired with breath brings their attention back into their body and starts the shift towards calm. 🐭 Hide like a mouse (with a gentle touch): Child’s pose with light pressure on the back gives deep pressure, andhelps children feel safe in their bodies. 🧸 Squeeze a plushy (x3 if possible): Squeeze to inhale, release to exhale is one of the fastest ways to help children slow down and calm their nervous system. 🐙 Wiggle like a jellyfish (with body pressure): Rhythmic movement, and bilateral stimulation through the legs release tension stored in the body and help children feel more grounded. 🧡 Connect (It’s okay to let them wiggle): Snuggle. I have big news I've been excited to tell you about... I partnered with @Carters to make the confidence program totally FREE. Confidence is one of my favorite topics to talk about. Why? Because I think we've got it backwards. We're often taught that confidence is about feeling good about yourself. Being the best at things. It's not. I know that's a bold statement, but I think it's an important one. True confidence has less to do with feeling good and a lot more to do with self-trust. Knowing what you feel, believing it's real, and feeling okay being you while it's happening. That self-trust is strongest when kids are little, and it starts to dim as they get older. As a fixture in childhood for 161 years, Carter’s knows that firsthand - that’s why they’re teaming up with us for The Childhood Confidence Project to give you practical ways to help kids hold onto it. My confidence program is the first piece: short videos, the exact scripts of what to say to your kids, plus a LIVE workshop with me on October 14th where I'll take your questions about confidence.
