Date or No Date? It’s a Submariner debate that goes beyond vintage versus modern. Right: Vintage Rolex Submariner ref. 1680. Debuting in the late 1960s, it brought the date complication and Cyclops lens to the Submariner for the first time, paired with a 40mm case, aluminum bezel, and the warm patina that defines a great vintage example. Left: Modern Rolex Submariner ref. 124060. Introduced in 2020, this 41mm reference keeps things simple with a clean, symmetrical no-date dial, Cerachrom ceramic bezel, caliber 3230, and 70-hour power reserve. More than 50 years of Submariner evolution, and the question remains the same.

Oyster Perpetual or Datejust? Both tend to get filed under the same “entry-level” label, but they’re not really solving the same problem. So which is the quintessential “first” Rolex? The Oyster Perpetual is Rolex distilled to its essentials: time only, smooth bezel, Oystersteel, no complications (unless we go way back). Its personality comes through the dial, from classic black and silver to turquoise, candy pink, and the Celebration dial. The Datejust takes the opposite approach. The date and Cyclops are central to its identity, but so is the sheer range of what a Datejust can be. Fluted or smooth bezel. Oyster or Jubilee bracelet. Steel, two-tone, or gold. Decades of configurations, yet nearly every version is instantly recognizable as a Datejust. One is Rolex at its simplest. The other might be Rolex at its most recognizable. If you could only pick one: Oyster Perpetual or Datejust?

The World Gold Council has labeled the gold market "volatile" in 2026, with peak highs earlier this year and lows in mid-summer. One thing hasn't wavered: Rolex raising prices on gold watches, up roughly 10% this year across major markets after back-to-back hikes in January and June. That price hike trickles down to the secondary market — these are the models with the highest YoY avg. price increase.
